Data Managers Menu

NOTE: This feature is only available in Advanced Mode. If you have not enabled this mode, the commands will not be visible.

A Data Manager provides a method to update an Excel file from a Visio file, or vice versa, without needing to fully overwrite the target file. Alternatively, you can use a Data Manager to maintain synchronised Visio and Excel versions of a Process Map. Currently, Process Navigator also supports the creation and editing of process maps using Microsoft Excel through its import and export commands (see Working with Excel).

Exported files that have been edited/ updated can be added to the library. Process Navigator imports files if they are newer than those in the Multi-Map Root.

By creating a Data Manager you can select:

  • The map files to export
  • The Nodes, Activities, Deliverables to be included
  • The properties to export
  • The name and location of the destination file (if the file exists, then the relevant sheets are overwritten, but unchanged sheets are not affected)

The Data Manager-created Excel file contains the parameters used to create it, so once set-up, the Excel files can ‘auto-update’, maintaining the correct synchronisation between the Visio and Excel files.
