Customised Stencil is not being displayed in Visio

Symptoms

There may be several symptoms:

1. The customised node is not shown when a new map is being created, instead the default Triaster node is shown.
2. The customised stencil does not appear on an existing map, instead another stencil is shown.
3. No stencil appears, so no shapes can be dragged onto the map.

Causes

1. The customised stencil and template have not been set up in Mapping Options.
2. The wrong stencil has been attached to the map. This could happen with a rebranding where both the new and old stencils are available.
3. There are two possible causes for no stencil:
1. The stencil associated with the map cannot be found.
2. The link to the stencil has been lost.

Solution

1. Set up Visio to use the Stencil and Template. See Mapping Options to reset the File Locations.
2. In the Map Control Console, Tools menu, re-attach the stencil to the map.
3. For the causes above:
1. Check the expected location of the stencil. If it cannot be restored to that location, then in the Map Control Console, Tools menu, re-attach the stencil to the map from its new location or reconnect a new stencil.
2. In the Map Control Console, Tools menu, re-attach the stencil to the map.
