Map Shows Wrong Level

Symptom

After a publish, the map is showing the wrong level in the Level boxes, perhaps 1 when it should be 3 or 2 when it should be 3.

Process Levels

Cause

The map or its parent map have lost the link to their parent map. This link is maintained through the hyperlink on the Up arrow in the bottom left of the map.

If the map cannot find its parent map, perhaps because the filename of the parent map has been changed or the relative locations of the map and its parent have changed, the map will revert to being Level 1. If the map you are concerned about is showing as Level 2, then it is its parent map that has lost its link to its parent map.

Solution

  1. In Visio, drill down from the (lost) parent map to the child map and confirm that the return link (in the Up arrow box) is correct.
  2. Save both parent and child maps.
  3. Re-publish both maps.
