Frameworks

There are a growing number of frameworks that can be applied to a Process Library. A framework can be as simple as a collection of pre-drawn maps, or as formal as the APQC process classification framework. The idea of a framework is either:

  • to give a start point to your own process mapping project where you can "fill in the gaps"
  • to provide a pre-drawn set of maps that describe a business method
  • to provide a pre-drawn set of maps as examples that you can customise to suit your own needs

In Triaster, a framework comprises 4 components:

  1. A framework specific menu file - this defines the content of the Home Page menu and the files it links to
  2. An Excel Import file - this enables you to generate the framework process maps using your own branded template
  3. A Process Metrics file - this enables you to store the framework's recommended data with the maps
  4. Framework documentation to help you understand how to use the framework, its origins and other relevant information

Irrespective of the specific framework, there is therefore a common method of applying a framework to a given Library.
